It's my place in Edinburgh

Young Polish people who emigrated to Scotland (for a short or a long time) often work below their qualification, not fully employing their knowledge and talent. Very often, due to lower accommodation costs, they decide to live in disadvantaged neighborhoods, where local communities are difficult to approach, often reluctant to the newcomers. This young polish people are full of energy and open for new challenges, wanting to use their creativity.

Polish Senators, during their visit in Edinburgh in February 2008, could clearly notice the need to support those young and enthusiastic people wanting to actively participate and create within different fields of arts and culture.

‘It’s my Place’ project wants to bring together and engage those talented and energetic members of Polish community and use their ideas and creativity to support their local neighborhoods and integrate with local communities.

The project will run a series of workshops and master classes exploring a variety of art techniques in the theme of ‘Its My Place’. Workshops will be run by professional artists experienced in community art projects. The work of the ‘professionals’ will be supported by 20 young Polish artists living in Scotland, who will get a chance to learn how to work with people of different backgrounds and abilities. They will also gain a valuable experience in art projects management, learn how to organize their workspace and promote their art. Working hand in hand with professional artists, students and participants from the community will put together a final exhibition displayed in local galleries in Edinburgh at the beginning of August and September. The exhibition will also be presented during the Polish Cultural Festival in Edinburgh in April 2009.

To promote the project marketing materials will be created to invite people from community to disseminate information about the ongoing activities, the final exhibition and newfound vitality in the neighborhood (Leaflets and Posters, Media Advertising).

The project will also org anise cultural event to present Polish history traditions, music, art.
